11th HotBENT Partner Meeting in Braunschweig

International bentonite experts come together in Braunschweig to shape the future of radioactive waste disposal.

From November 28 to 30, 2023, the annual meeting of the HotBENT project (High-Temperature Bentonite Enhancement Technology) took place in the historic city of Braunschweig, Germany.
This international gathering brought together leading experts in bentonite research from the USA, Spain, Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland, Korea, Japan and the UK.
The HotBENT project has been at the forefront of research into the high-temperature performance of bentonite-based materials, which are crucial for the geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste.
The meeting in Braunschweig provided an invaluable platform for discussing the latest results of the partners and the status of the field experiment. The agenda of the three-day event started with a field excursion to the Asse mine and Morsleben repository of BGE. The last two days of the meeting focused on technical sessions to drive the project forward.
