MEASURES
MEASURES R&D project
The research project MEASURES aims to generate an experimentally created database on a defined crushed salt material and to develop and calibrate constitutive material models based on this data. In addition to recalculating the observed phenomena, the material models should enable the extrapolation of compaction behavior. The MEASURES project will significantly contribute to improving and deepening the understanding of crushed salt reactions and the associated permeability development. Furthermore, the project's results will help reduce uncertainties regarding the long-term behavior of crushed salt as a geotechnical barrier, thereby enhancing the predictive quality for a potential repository for heat-generating radioactive waste in rock salt. The project encompasses research work on various scales. Both experimental and numerical work are being conducted at the microstructure level, laboratory scale, and in-situ scale. The work of BGE TECHNOLOGY GmbH focuses particularly on the development of material models and numerical calculations. The project strives for close collaboration with national and international colleagues and aims to present results at international conferences. The project partners, including Sandia National Laboratories (USA), COVRA (Netherlands), Utrecht University (UU, Netherlands), and the Nuclear Waste Service (UK), ensure ongoing international exchange.
