Studies on disposal in large boreholes

The project aimed to contribute to an international collaborative effort concerning the assessment of repository safety for the disposal of radioactive waste in large boreholes.
The involvement of DBE TECHNOLOGY GmbH focused on waste characterization, the development of waste acceptance criteria, as well as suitable backfill materials and emplacement techniques. In accordance with the results of a preliminary study, the feasibility of the concept was demonstrated.
The project was divided into the following work packages:
