BEnKo

Bewertung der Integrität von Endlagerbehältern unter Korrosionseinfluss im Kristallingestein

The research project "BEnKo" aims to establish the methodological foundations for assessing the integrity of repository containers in crystalline host rock, thereby providing a crucial basis for the further development of container concepts.

The "BEnKo" project pursues four sub-goals:

  • Development of a Fundamental Verification Methodology: Based on the requirements for repository containers established in previous projects, a fundamental characterization of a verification methodology will be developed. The focus will be on aspects of time-dependent corrosion and the mechanical stability of repository containers.
  • Formulation of Corrosion-Specific Criteria: Corrosion-specific criteria for container materials will be defined. This will include determining which corrosion phenomena are permissible without compromising the integrity objectives.
  • Creation of an Experimental Matrix: An experimental matrix will be compiled, summarizing the expected boundary conditions in the subareas of crystalline host rock and the materials potentially suitable for repository containers. This matrix will serve as a basis for future corrosion investigations.
  • Comparison and Evaluation of Modeling Approaches: A comparison and evaluation of modeling approaches and tools will be conducted to derive time-dependent corrosion and corrosion-dependent mechanical stability of repository containers. This will be carried out using a generic test case.
