BGE TEC at IGD‑TP Exchange Forum 2025: CHRISTA III, EURAD 2 and a visit to the Buckow underground lab
Participants of the excursion to the Buckow underground laboratory as part of the IGD‑TP Exchange Forum 2025.
From 24 to 28 November 2025, the tenth IGD-TP Exchange Forum entitled “RD&D Challenges from Siting to Industrialisation” took place in Prague. The event series organised by the European Technology Platform Implementing Geological Disposal of Radioactive Waste Technology Platform (IGD-TP) aims to support cross-border strategic initiatives for the safe geological disposal of radioactive waste. This year, 121 experts from 17 countries participated.
BGE TECHNOLOGY GmbH (BGE TEC) as well as representatives of our parent company, BGE, actively contributed to the event with two scientific posters:
- The poster “Fundamentals of long-term safety assessments for a high-level waste (HLW) repository concept in crystalline rock” presents initial results from the BGE TEC research project CHRISTA III. It focuses on the further development of methodologies for the long-term safety assessment of a high-level waste repository in crystalline host rock. The poster was presented and discussed with international experts by Dr André Lommerzheim.
- The second poster, “EURAD-2 OPTI – On a way to a mutual understanding about optimisation”, was presented by Philipp Herold. He is involved in the European partnership project EURAD-2 as seconded personnel from BGE. The contribution aims to further develop a shared European understanding of optimisation in geological disposal.
Both posters were presented during the forum’s poster session and attracted considerable interest among participants.
At the end of the event, participants had the opportunity to visit the Bukov Underground Research Facility (Bukov URF) in the Czech Republic. The visit provided insights into the technical infrastructure as well as the results of various in-situ experiments, offering a practical perspective on applied geological disposal research under realistic conditions.
The poster related to the CHRISTA III research project is now available for download in our media library. The photo gallery below documents impressions from the forum in Prague and from the excursion to the Bukov URF.
